Managing several family members' devices, screen time, and content access is one of the more common requests we get, and it's usually better solved at the network level than device by device.
Router-level controls vs device-level controls
Most modern mesh routers include built-in profiles for pausing internet access to specific devices, setting schedules, and basic content filtering, all from one app, without needing to configure each device separately. This is usually easier to maintain than app-based controls installed on every individual device.
Where device-level controls still matter
Content filtering and app time limits within a specific device's operating system (like Google Family Link or Apple Screen Time) cover things network controls can't, like limiting a specific app rather than all internet access. The two approaches work best combined, not as alternatives.
What we set up
We configure router-level device profiles and schedules first, since it's the most reliable layer, then help set up device-level app controls for anything that needs more granular limits.
