The security question around smart locks usually isn't about the lock mechanism itself, most use the same physical bolt as a traditional lock. It's about what changes once you add fingerprint, code, and app-based access.
Where smart locks genuinely improve security
No more spare keys hidden under mats or given to a cleaner and never collected back. Auto-lock means a door left unlocked by accident locks itself. Access logs mean you actually know when the door was opened and by whom, something a traditional lock can never tell you.
Where the real risks are
The weak point is almost always the app account, not the lock. A weak password or a phone left logged in and unattended is a bigger risk than the lock mechanism itself. Good smart locks also keep fingerprint data encrypted locally rather than sending it to the cloud, worth checking before you buy.
Our take
For most homes, a reputable smart lock with local fingerprint storage and a backup physical key is at least as secure as a traditional deadbolt, and considerably more convenient day to day.
