Home CCTV is common and legal across the UAE, but there are a few sensible boundaries worth knowing before cameras go up, especially around what they capture and who can see the footage.
Cover your property, not your neighbor's
The general principle is that you're entitled to monitor your own property, entrances, and boundary. Cameras angled directly into a neighbor's private windows, garden, or living space go beyond that and are the most common source of disputes over home CCTV.
Footage isn't public content
Recorded footage of identifiable people should be treated as private, not something to post online or share without a real reason. If footage genuinely needs to go to police for an incident, that's a legitimate use, sharing it publicly on social media generally is not.
