Access control for a nanny or cleaner without giving out a key
6 min read
Handing out a physical key to household staff is common, but it comes with real drawbacks: no way to know when it's used, no way to revoke it without changing the whole lock, and no control over who else might end up with a copy, all of which a smart lock solves cleanly.
What a smart lock changes
A smart lock with a keypad or app lets you assign a unique code or scheduled access window to each person, a cleaner's code that only works during agreed hours, for instance, without ever handing over a physical key that could be copied or lost.
Scheduled vs always-on access
For staff with a consistent, regular schedule, a recurring scheduled window (every Tuesday and Thursday morning, for instance) is more convenient than issuing a new code each visit, while remaining easy to revoke entirely if the arrangement ends. For occasional or one-off visits, a single-use or short-window code is the better fit, expiring automatically without needing to remember to revoke it manually.
Access logs matter more than people expect
Being able to see exactly when the door was opened, and by which code, gives real visibility that a physical key simply can't provide, useful for peace of mind and for resolving any disputes about timing, an objective record rather than relying on anyone's memory of when they arrived or left.
What happens when the arrangement ends
Revoking a code takes seconds in the app the moment an arrangement with staff ends, no locksmith, no changing the physical lock, no lingering risk of a key still floating around after the relationship has ended, a meaningful practical advantage over managing physical keys.
What we set up
We configure individual codes or scheduled access for each person who needs entry, and walk you through revoking or changing access yourself in seconds if a situation changes, so you're never dependent on us for a routine access change.
