Two identical video doorbells can have very different battery life depending on a few specific, controllable factors, not just the model itself, which is why comparing battery life anecdotes between different homes can be genuinely misleading.
What drains battery fastest
Motion sensitivity set too high (triggering on every passing car or pedestrian, not just actual visitors), frequent live-view checks through the app, and weak WiFi signal at the doorbell forcing it to work harder to stay connected are the biggest factors, each independently controllable without touching the hardware itself.
Why a busy street location drains battery faster
A doorbell mounted facing a busy street or a common walking path triggers far more motion events than one facing a private, quieter entry, and every triggered event, recording, an alert, a possible live view, uses battery. This alone explains a lot of the real-world variation between otherwise identical doorbells in different homes.
What genuinely extends it
Tuning motion zones to only the area actually relevant (your doorstep and path, not the street), and confirming strong WiFi signal reaches the doorbell's exact location, both meaningfully extend battery life without changing hardware, this is the single highest-leverage setting most people never adjust from default.
