Where should you place your router in a multi-floor villa?

Central and elevated placement, ideally near the middle of the home rather than a ground-floor cupboard, gets meaningfully better coverage across multiple floors than the common default of wherever the internet cable happens to enter the house.
Why the internet entry point is usually the wrong spot
ISPs typically run the incoming line to a convenient point, often a ground-floor cupboard or corner, which is rarely the ideal spot for broadcasting signal to the rest of a multi-floor home.
Central and elevated beats a corner every time
A router positioned centrally and slightly elevated, not on the floor and not inside a closed cabinet, broadcasts more evenly in all directions and through fewer walls and floors.
Why a single router often can't do it alone in a villa
Concrete floors and multiple levels are exactly the layout mesh systems are built for. A single router, no matter how well placed, has a physical range limit that most villas exceed.
Where to actually put additional mesh nodes
Nodes are best positioned to bridge the gap between floors, rather than duplicating coverage where it's already strong, usually near a stairwell or central hallway on the affected floor.
What we do
We run a floor-by-floor signal survey to find the real placement for both the main router and any additional nodes, rather than guessing based on where the cabling happens to already be.
Frequently asked questions
Should I move my router out of the cupboard where my internet line comes in?
Often yes, that spot is chosen for cabling convenience, not for broadcasting signal well through the rest of the home.
Does elevating the router actually help?
Yes, an elevated, open position broadcasts more evenly than one on the floor or inside a closed cabinet.
Can one router cover a multi-floor villa by itself?
Rarely well. Concrete floors and multiple levels are exactly why mesh systems with additional nodes exist.
